Culture and the Stooges

I couldn't help myself when I saw this. Several interesting things such as cultural references that place the Stooges most popular episodes in the period immediately after WWII:

1. References to "this guy must be from outer space"; i.e., an alien. America was preoccupied with science fiction at the time - Buck Rogers, etc.  Moe says this about Joe, meaning that he is acting strange.
2. References to Matzha  - The Stooges were Jewish and Jewish writers and Jewish humor dominated Tin Pan Alley and the writing of film and early TV. Still does I am proud to say that the only real humor is Jewish humor even when written and performed by gentiles.
3. Notice the shoes and such, many types of sneakers and work shoes still are with us.

Inside Scoop on Kiko.com from the founders

When I heard through the various Web 2.0 blogs (the usual suspects) about Kiko.com selling its code base assets for its on-line calendar application, I was interested. I had seen the founder's presentation at the Web Innovator's get together, sponsored by David Beisel, and I just could not stand the prognostication fulminating out of the very author's of said blogs, and much more so, the comments that rapidly piled on.

A disaster, a web 2.0 harbinger, a second demise of yet another bubble! I just knew that the hype had to be lanced like a boil, because from the little I knew of the founders and their incubator, ycombinator , there had to be a better, less hysterical explanation.

So I met with Justin Kan and Emmett Shear, the founders of Kiko.com, and made a 4 part vlog entry. It was an enlightening experience; these guys are smart, they have a plan, they are aided by good advisors, and well, let the video speak for itself.

Update: The solo video segment with Emmett Shear has been relocated, as it lengthens the actual message and repeats certain topics that the founders represent quite well while appearing together in the previous segments.

I just completed an approval edit for Elizabeth Stahl (yes, Leslie Stahl's cousin), covering what goes on in her Goddess Parties, which are a group encounter for women based on the mythology of the Goddess in actual experience and metaphor.

Taping and editing this event was a strange, almost phantasmagorical experience. As the only man in the room, witness to the very personal and sensitive revelations that were evoked amongst the women participants and facilitated by Elizabeth, I was moved and somewhat abashed. I wanted to be as unobtrusive a videograoher as possible, almost a documentarian blending into the background.

At certain emotional peaks of the event, I left the camera and walked quietly away so the circle of friends could feel unobserved. Editing the video, with its attendant looping and minute examination of the footage, showed me an aspect of these dynamic experiences, and answered questions I have had about the mechanics of bonding, and the differences between men and women.

Elizabeth Stahl, as shown in this brief video, is an expert facilitator of "group experiences for women". and I do not know of any valid analogue for men, although such may exist.

It's powerful stuff that can take on the aspects of entertainment for bridal showers, or a more serious shade of near cathartic group psychotherapy in such cases where the participants are close and seeking a defined resolution.

I certainly learned more than I could have hoped for in an otherwise commercial situation.
